Care Bears Family Resemblance in New My Little Pony? A Fan Theory

Is it just me, or is the latest My Little Pony series giving off some major original Care Bears (Nelvana) vibes? Let me take you through my theory. It’s hard to ignore the parallels between these two beloved franchises, especially when you dive into their recent iterations.

Both MLP and the Care Bears started their current successful runs with movies, which then paved the way for series sequels. Think about it: each served as a significant upgrade from previous generations. In the pony world, it was a leap from Friendship is Magic, and for the bears, it was a step up from DiC’s Care Bears era. Interestingly enough, both of these “upgrades” were animated by the same studio, DHX Media (now WildBrain), who even owns DiC! That’s quite a connection within the Care Bears Family tree and the pony universe.

And let’s talk theme songs. The tunes for both new series – “Let’s Make Our Mark Together” for MLP and “Just Do the Care Bears Countdown” – are significantly catchier and more thematic than the simpler songs of previous generations. They really put the “theme” in theme songs, wouldn’t you agree?

But the similarities don’t stop there. Take a look at this:

Opaline and Misty from My Little Pony…

…versus No Heart and Beastly from the Care Bears. Enough said, right? It’s uncanny! The villains share so many traits: the accents, the sidekicks, even their gloomy homes feel like they’re cut from the same cloth. Opaline even channels some Gargamel from the Smurfs energy, wouldn’t you say? This villainous mirroring is a strong point in considering a link within the care bears family and MLP.

We all know these two cuddly franchises have been friendly competitors for years, but now it feels like the inspiration is becoming much clearer. I’ve also watched the current Care Bears series, “Unlock the Magic,” and I must say, the modern cartoon style works wonderfully for the bears. It manages to make them feel both contemporary and cool, while keeping that classic, huggable appeal that makes people want to buy the toys.

Before I wrap up, I have to mention two iconic catchphrases that fit both worlds perfectly:

Hi New Friend!

“Oh, Why do these things ALWAYS happen to me?!”

(Please keep these catchphrases as is in bold/italic)

So, what do you think? Am I onto something with this Care Bears-MLP comparison? Is the new My Little Pony a spiritual cousin to the care bears family? Could Opaline have a spoiled niece or nephew lurking around, just like No Heart had Shreeky? And will Izzy ever manage to cheer up Grumpy?

I’m eager to hear your thoughts on this! TTFN, Ta Ta for Now!
