Creating an Xbox family group is a fantastic way to manage your family’s gaming experience, ensuring everyone can enjoy Xbox safely and responsibly. Whether you’re looking to oversee younger players’ activities or simply want to streamline account management for your household, setting up a family group is straightforward. This guide will walk you through the steps to add family members to your Xbox group, catering to different scenarios based on their existing Xbox accounts.
Adding a Family Member Who’s New to Xbox
If you’re adding someone to your family group who doesn’t yet have an Xbox Live account, here’s how to get them set up:
- Start by pressing the Xbox button on your controller to bring up the guide menu. Navigate to Sign in and sign in to your own Xbox account.
- Open the guide again with the Xbox button and go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members > Add to family > Add new.
- When your family member is prompted to sign in, instruct them to press B on the controller. They should then select Get a new account to begin creating their new Microsoft account.
- Once prompted, confirm by selecting Add to family.
Adding a Family Member with an Existing Xbox Live Account (On Your Console)
For family members who already have an Xbox Live account that’s been used on your console, the process is even quicker:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide. Select Sign in and sign in to your account.
- Press the Xbox button again and navigate to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members > Add to family.
- Choose your family member’s profile from the list and press the A button on your controller to add them to your family group.
Adding a Family Member with an Existing Xbox Live Account (Not On Your Console)
If your family member has an Xbox Live account that they use on a different console or haven’t used on yours yet, follow these steps:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide. Select Sign in and sign in to your account.
- Press the Xbox button again and go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members > Add to family > Add new.
- Have your family member sign in to their existing Microsoft account when prompted. Finally, select Add to family to complete the process.
Important Note: After you send the invitation, the family member you invited will receive an email with a link to join your family group. They will need to sign in to their Microsoft account to accept the invitation. For younger family members under the statutory age, the invitation process will also include a step to request parental consent, ensuring a safe and secure environment for everyone in your family group.
