Vickie Lynn Regehr, a beloved resident of McPherson, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at McPherson Hospital at the age of 66. Her passing marks the end of a life filled with simple pleasures, deep connections, and a memorable spirit. Born on April 13, 1956, in Woodward, Oklahoma, Vickie was the daughter of Verla Jean (Thompson) and Milas Preston Thompson, Jr. She spent her formative years in Hillsboro, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1974, setting the stage for a life characterized by her warm personality and engaging interests.
Vickie embraced the outdoors with open arms, finding joy in activities like fishing and camping, often sharing these moments with cherished friends. Target shooting was another pastime she enjoyed, showcasing a different facet of her adventurous spirit. Her garden was a testament to her nurturing nature, particularly her knack for cultivating impressively large tomatoes. Above all, Vickie valued her family and friends, who were often the recipients of her playful and mischievous side, balanced with a dry wit and a genuinely kind heart. Those who knew her best understood that a conversation with Vickie could lead to unexpected and humorous turns, a testament to her unique personality. Her affection extended to the animal kingdom, as she adored her pets and built an enthusiastic collection of Taz memorabilia, showcasing her fun-loving spirit. Vickie’s professional life included positions at Hospira, the Kansas Department of Transportation, and CertainTeed, reflecting her diverse skills and work ethic.
An avid reader, Vickie found particular enjoyment in the thrilling novels of James Patterson, often immersing herself in his intricate plots and suspenseful narratives. As a woman of faith, Vickie was a devoted Christian, holding firmly to her belief in the promise of immortality through Christ, finding comfort and strength in her spiritual convictions.
Vickie is lovingly remembered by her long-time close friend, Karen Kobs of McPherson, KS, who shared many of life’s moments with her. She is also survived by her mother, Jean Abbott of Nixa, MO; her daughter, Vanessa Williams and son-in-law Luke of Garfield, AR; and her adored grandsons, Ian and Hank Williams, also of Garfield, AR. Her siblings, Connie Hanna and her husband Randy of Moundridge, KS, and Kathy Thompson and her partner Debi of Hutchinson, KS, along with numerous extended family members and friends, also mourn her passing. Vickie was preceded in death by her father, M.P. Thompson, Jr., and her son, Todd Regehr.
A celebration of Vickie’s life will be held in a come and go style on Monday, December 19, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home, located at 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
