Cramped Campsites and Campground Density
The initial issue arose immediately upon arrival. Despite confirming space for our 39-foot fifth wheel, the reality was a campsite that barely accommodated the RV itself. Maneuvering was challenging, and parking our truck within the designated area proved impossible. The campground layout felt incredibly dense, with campsites packed tightly together, resembling “sardines in a can.” This close proximity contributed to a boisterous atmosphere, which may not be ideal for those seeking a tranquil camping experience.
Public Access and Security Concerns
A notable aspect of Apache Family Campground & Pier is its accessibility to the public. The presence of a restaurant and pier open to non-campers raised concerns about security and privacy. Being situated so close to public areas made us feel uneasy, knowing that individuals unrelated to the campground could be nearby. Furthermore, the disregard for the posted speed limit within the campground was unsettling, especially with children playing outdoors. The lack of spacious campsites exacerbated these safety worries, as there was limited buffer space around our RV.
Amenities: Hits and Misses
The campground offered a mixed bag in terms of amenities. On the positive side, the restrooms were remarkably well-maintained and clean. Additionally, some staff members were friendly and helpful. However, the pool was disappointingly cold, rendering it unusable for comfortable swimming. Similarly, the “hot tub” offered no respite from the chill, maintaining the same frigid temperature as the pool. While crafts and activities were advertised, we did not participate, as they seemed primarily geared towards long-term residents or “annuals,” leaving us feeling somewhat out of place as short-term visitors.
Conclusion: Proceed with Caution
In conclusion, Apache Family Campground & Pier presents a somewhat uneven camping experience. While the clean restrooms and friendly staff are positives, the extremely tight campsites, crowded environment, public accessibility, and underwhelming pool and hot tub are significant drawbacks. The overall atmosphere seemed more oriented towards seasonal campers, and it’s questionable whether transient visitors are as warmly welcomed. Potential campers, especially those with larger RVs or seeking a quieter, more secure environment, should carefully consider these factors before choosing Apache Family Campground & Pier.
