OSRS Family Crest Quest Guide: Reunite the Dimintheis Family

The Family Crest quest in Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is a classic quest that rewards players with a customizable pair of gauntlets, each offering unique benefits. To start this quest, you’ll need to embark on a journey across RuneScape, dealing with the eccentric Dimintheis family and their fractured heirloom. This guide provides a step-by-step walkthrough to help you complete the “Family Crest” quest and claim your powerful gauntlets.

Getting Started with Dimintheis

  1. Initiate the Quest: Begin your quest by heading to Varrock. Locate a small house situated southeast of the East Varrock bank. Inside, you will find Dimintheis.

  2. Speak to Dimintheis: Talk to Dimintheis about the family crest. He will explain his predicament and task you with retrieving the three pieces of the crest from his estranged sons. He will suggest you start with his eldest son first.

Retrieving Caleb’s Crest Piece

  1. Locate Caleb: Travel to Catherby and find Caleb in a house just northeast of the Catherby bank.

  2. Caleb’s Fishy Request: Speak to Caleb. To convince him to part with his piece of the family crest, you’ll need to satisfy his unusual craving for cooked fish. Prepare to offer him the following: Shrimp, Salmon, Tuna, Bass, and Swordfish. You can either catch and cook these fish yourself, or purchase them from the Grand Exchange or other players.

  3. Trading Fish for Crest Piece: Give Caleb the requested cooked fish. In exchange for your culinary offerings, Caleb will hand over his piece of the family crest. He will then point you towards his brother in Al Kharid.

Obtaining the Nobleman’s Crest Piece

  1. Seek the Gem Trader: Journey to Al Kharid and find the Gem Trader. Speak to him to inquire about Dimintheis’ second son. The Gem Trader will direct you to a nobleman known for wearing a “poncey yellow cape,” who frequents the Scorpion Pit mine north of Al Kharid, near the gold rocks.

  2. Confront the Nobleman: Head to the Scorpion Pit mine and locate the Nobleman. Engage in conversation to learn that he desires a ruby ring and a ruby necklace crafted from the finest gold in return for his piece of the crest. He suggests seeking out a dwarf named Boot in the Dwarven Mines for information on this special gold.

  3. Consult Boot in the Dwarven Mines: Teleport or travel to Falador and descend into the Dwarven Mines. Navigate to the westernmost corner of the mine to find Boot. Speak with Boot, and he will reveal that the finest gold is located within an underground ruin near Witchaven.

  4. Venture to Witchaven’s Old Ruin: Make your way to Witchaven, situated southeast of Ardougne. Locate the old ruin entrance west of the village. Prepare to face level 28 Hobgoblins and level 53 Ogres as you proceed into the ruin.

  5. Solve the Lever Puzzle: Within the ruin, you will encounter a locked chamber guarding the perfect gold. To unlock the door, manipulate the levers in the correct sequence:

    • Pull the northern wall lever up.
    • Enter the southern room and pull its lever up.
    • Return to the northern wall and pull its lever down.
    • Enter the northern room and pull its lever up.
    • Exit the room and pull the northern wall lever up.
    • Go back to the southern room and pull its lever down.
  6. Mine Perfect Gold: Once the chamber is unlocked, enter and mine two ‘perfect’ gold ores from the rocks. Be cautious of the level 122 Hellhounds within the chamber.

  7. Craft Ruby Jewelry: Use a furnace to smelt the perfect gold ores into gold bars. With the gold bars, two rubies, a ring mould, and a necklace mould, craft a ruby ring and a ruby necklace.

  8. Trade Jewelry for Crest Piece: Return to the Nobleman in Al Kharid and give him the ruby ring and necklace. He will reward you with his piece of the family crest and direct you to his younger brother.

Facing Johnathon and Chronozon for the Final Piece

  1. Prepare for Johnathon: For the final brother, you will need to prepare for combat and poison. Gather the following: anti-poison potions (two are recommended), decent armor and weapon, runes for all four blast spells (Wind Blast, Water Blast, Earth Blast, Fire Blast), and either level 59 Magic or a Wizard’s Mind Bomb (obtainable from the Falador bar).

  2. Locate Johnathon: Head to the Jolly Boar Inn, northeast of Varrock. Ascend to the second floor and find Johnathon in the northwest room.

  3. Cure Johnathon: Speak to Johnathon and discover he has been poisoned. Use an anti-poison potion on him to cure him. He will reveal that Chronozon, a level 170 monster in the Wilderness Dungeon, holds the final crest piece and must be defeated using blast spells.

  4. Descend into the Wilderness Dungeon: Travel to Edgeville and enter the dungeon marked with a “!” south of the bank. Venture deep into the dungeon, passing through the gate into the Wilderness section. Chronozon is located in level 3 Wilderness within a non-multi combat area.

  5. Navigate to Chronozon: Proceed through the dungeon, past level 10 Thugs, level 13 Chaos Druids, and level 45 Skeletons. Be prepared to face level 172 Black Demons and level 64 Poison Spiders as you head west and then south.

  6. Defeat Chronozon: You will find Chronozon in a room with the Earth Obelisk. Attack Chronozon. To prevent his regeneration, you must successfully cast one of each blast spell (Wind Blast, Water Blast, Earth Blast, Fire Blast) on him during the fight. Protect from melee is advisable. Once defeated, Chronozon will drop the final piece of the family crest.

Completing the Family Crest Quest

  1. Return to Dimintheis: With all three crest pieces in your possession, return to Dimintheis in Varrock. Speak to him to reunite the family crest. He will be overjoyed and reward you with the Family Gauntlets.

Family Gauntlets and Enchantments

Gauntlets Info: If you lose your gauntlets, Dimintheis will provide you with a replacement for free.
