Rhonda Sue Barnes Obituary: Celebrating a Life of Faith and Love

Rhonda Sue Barnes, a woman deeply cherished as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 27, 2025, to be with her Lord and Savior. Her life, a testament to the fruits of the Spirit, was marked by humility, selflessness, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone she met. Rhonda’s infectious smile, laughter, and loving nature enriched the lives of those around her, making her an exemplary daughter and mother, always ready with a listening ear and supportive guidance. Her devotion to her husband was evident in their everyday life, and her grandchildren adored her gentle presence and boundless love. Rhonda’s strength was rooted in her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, a grace she wished to share with all.

Born on July 20, 1959, in Big Spring, Texas, to Ronald and Mary Gilbreath, Rhonda grew up in Stanton, Texas. It was in Stanton that her lifelong love story began, meeting her husband of 46 years, Gary, in grade school. Their journey together took them to Arlington, Texas, early in their marriage, before returning to Stanton and eventually settling in Odessa to raise their children, Josh and Krista. During their time in Odessa, they were active members of the 6th and Jackson Church of Christ. Rhonda dedicated herself to her work in the Trust Department at a local bank, but her most cherished role was creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. Following Gary’s retirement, they embraced a new chapter in Abilene, where they enjoyed traveling with loved ones and became active members of the Remington Ridge Church of Christ. Family was paramount to Rhonda and Gary, and they were constants at family events and vacations, extending their love generously to both family and friends.

Rhonda was predeceased by her father, Ronald Gilbreath, and her brother, Ricky Gilbreath. She is lovingly survived by her mother, Mary Gilbreath; her husband, Gary Barnes; her son, Josh Barnes, his wife Emily, and their children Claire, Caroline, and Henry; and her daughter, Krista Owens, her husband Jarrett, and their children Rayleigh and Jameson.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of support received in recent months. The tangible presence of faith and community was a source of comfort to Rhonda, who felt God’s love through the kindness and support of many.

Rhonda’s life exemplified the understanding that our earthly existence is temporary, and our true home lies in the presence of God. This gift of eternal life is available to all who believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Rhonda and her family encourage anyone seeking this path to salvation to reach out, so they can share this transformative good news.
