Remembering Scott L. Hermes: A Life Well-Lived in the Hermes Family

Scott L. Hermes, a cherished member of the Hermes Family, passed away peacefully at the age of 53 on August 8, 2024, at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh. Born on August 21, 1970, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, to David and Sandra Hermes, Scott spent his entire life in the Fox Valley, leaving behind a legacy of courage, love, and enduring spirit within the Hermes family and beyond.

A 1989 graduate of Menasha High School, Scott built a life rooted in community and strong relationships. His marriage to Melissa Hermes on September 5, 2015, marked a period of shared adventures and unwavering mutual support. Together, they explored new destinations through travel, enjoyed the excitement of casinos, and, most importantly, cherished their time spent in each other’s company. Their bond was particularly strengthened as they navigated health challenges, providing each other with steadfast encouragement and love.

Scott was a passionate fan of Wisconsin sports, embodying the state’s enthusiastic spirit. Beyond sports, he valued connection with his loved ones, finding joy in moments spent with family and friends. He shared a special bond with his son Cory, often watching wrestling and the Super Bowl together, creating lasting memories. His great sense of humor shone brightly in his playful interactions, especially with his niece Anna, with whom he shared a collection of cherished inside jokes. Scott also cultivated deep friendships through his regular poker games, appreciating the camaraderie and support from his close-knit group.

In 2020, Scott faced a formidable challenge with a cancer diagnosis. For over four years, he demonstrated remarkable resilience, battling the illness with unwavering positivity and determination. His courageous fight and deep care for his family served as an inspiration to all who knew him. The strength and love he exhibited throughout his life will continue to resonate, ensuring Scott’s legacy as a devoted member of the Hermes family endures in the hearts of those who loved and supported him.

Scott is lovingly remembered by his wife, Melissa Hermes, and his son, Cory Hermes. His Hermes family circle also includes his adored niece, Arianna Flock, brother David (Terri) Hermes, nieces Gabriella (Ethan) Van Theil and Madelyn Hermes, Aunt Ginger (Jerome) Baer, and cousin Brian (Linda) Hoelzel. He is further survived by numerous extended family members and friends who were touched by his warmth and spirit.

He was preceded in passing by his parents, David and Sandra Hermes, who undoubtedly shaped the values and character that defined his life within the Hermes family.

A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes, located at 100 Lake Point Dr, Oshkosh, on Saturday, August 17, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Reflecting Scott’s enthusiastic support for Wisconsin sports, attendees are invited to honor his memory by wearing their favorite Wisconsin team apparel.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to help alleviate medical and end-of-life expenses, a testament to the community’s support for the Hermes family during this time. Donations to this fund offer a meaningful way to honor Scott’s memory and support his family.
