My name is Jenna Clem (Huber), and I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea to help preserve a cherished piece of our community history: Joe Huber’s Family Farm and Restaurant. Our family farm, deeply rooted in tradition and community spirit, is facing an uncertain future, and we are turning to you, our community, for support.
Joe Huber’s Family Farm is more than just a business; it’s a legacy built by my grandfather, Joseph Huber Jr., and my father, Joseph Huber III. My father, Joseph Huber III, tragically passed away in a mowing accident at home on July 27th, 2015. He dedicated his entire life to this farm, a passion he inherited from his father. Their combined hard work and vision transformed this land into a place that holds countless memories for so many in our community. From childhood visits to adulthood traditions, Joe Huber’s Farm has been the backdrop for pumpkin picking adventures, comforting meals of chicken and dumplings, and the simple joy of fried biscuits with apple butter. These are the memories I cherish, growing up on the farm where the strawberry patch was practically my front yard. I remember those mornings, enjoying sweet strawberries while waiting for the school bus. I witnessed firsthand my dad’s unwavering dedication, waking up at all hours to protect the crops, always working with integrity and instilling in us the values of hard work and doing what’s right.
Unfortunately, since the passing of my grandfather and father, a divide has emerged within the family. While some prioritize financial gain, my husband and I are deeply committed to preserving our family legacy. We have made multiple fair offers to purchase the farm, hoping to keep it within the Huber family for generations to come, but these offers have been disregarded. Despite these challenges, the next generation of Hubers is determined to keep this legacy alive. My husband and I felt so strongly about keeping my father’s home within the family that we purchased it after his passing, even before we were sure we could move back. In July 2018, driven by the desire for our two sons to experience the same idyllic childhood I had, we made the move back to the farm. It was a decision filled with emotion, returning to the place where tragedy struck, but the pull of family and legacy was stronger. Now, living here, seeing my children thrive, and becoming more involved in the farm, my resolve has only strengthened. I cannot imagine a world without Joe Huber’s Farm and I am committed to fighting for its survival.
To continue operating and giving back to the community that has supported us for so long, we are reaching out for help. We are organizing an auction on November 17th, 2018, and any funds raised will be used in our attempt to retain Joe Huber’s Family Farm and Restaurant. We are prepared to invest our own personal funds alongside community contributions. We are being transparent; we are not millionaires, but we are rich in our love for this farm and its legacy. In the unfortunate event that we are unsuccessful in retaining the farm, every penny raised will be donated to WHAS Crusade for Children, a charity that was very close to both my father’s and grandfather’s hearts.
We believe in dreaming big and working hard, values instilled in me by my father. I am determined to honor his and my grandfather’s legacy. But I cannot do this alone. We need the community’s support to ensure that Joe Huber’s Family Farm continues to be a place of cherished memories for years to come. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
