Remembering Max Dugger Sr.: A Life Dedicated to Family and Craftsmanship

Max Ramon Dugger Sr., a beloved figure in Marshall, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, at the age of 73, surrounded by the family he deeply cherished. Born on February 26, 1951, to Claude and Olive Dugger, Max lived a life marked by dedication to his family and a remarkable talent for craftsmanship. The Dugger Family mourns the loss of a central figure, a man who embodied the spirit of a true family patriarch.

Max Dugger was known as a true craftsman, often described as a ‘jack of all trades.’ His skills weren’t just innate; they were born from a thirst for knowledge and a willingness to learn. Famously, after simply reading a book on house building, Max expertly added to and remodeled his own home. This self-taught expertise made him the go-to person for anyone in the Dugger family needing assistance. Whether it was a home repair, a mechanical issue, or any problem requiring a solution, Max was the one they called. His approach was unwavering: if he didn’t immediately know the answer, he would dedicate himself to research until he found it, showcasing his resourceful and determined nature within the Dugger family circle.

However, above all his talents, Max’s greatest passion was his family. They were, without a doubt, his “pride and joy,” his “ultimate accomplishment.” His love for his family defined him. Retirement from the State and Home Depot granted him even more precious time to dedicate to them. A familiar and heartwarming sight was Max chauffeuring his grandchildren to school events and 4-H activities, always present and supportive in their lives. These moments of family togetherness were the highlights of his days, reinforcing the strong bonds within the Dugger family.

Max is survived by his loving wife of nearly 45 years, Diane S. Dugger, who stood by his side through life’s journey. His legacy continues through his children: Jim (Franka Addler) Wirth, Max Jr. (Lindy) Dugger, and Candy (Todd) Jones. He was a proud grandfather to Morgan (Boden Becker) Dugger, Hallie (fiancé Cam Helderman) Jones, Cole Jones, Taylor Dugger, Kayleb Price, and Natalie (Evan James) Jones. His extended family circle also includes bonus grandchildren Ethan (Lindsay) York and Kalen (Kelsey) York, and bonus great-grandchildren Amelia, Wyatt, Maren, and Colin York. He is also remembered by his brother, Alan Dugger of Clinton; his sister, Glenda Massey of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ginny and Jim Lewzader; along with numerous cherished nephews, nieces, and other special family members. Not to be forgotten is his beloved dog, Maggie, and a host of grand-pups, all part of the extended Dugger family.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Claude and Olive Dugger, and his sister, Anna Kay Goldstein. While Max Dugger Sr. was a humble man who did not wish for a formal service, his family invites those who knew him to share their cherished memories of Max. In remembering Max, we celebrate a life well-lived, deeply rooted in family and filled with the quiet satisfaction of a craftsman’s touch. The Dugger family will forever hold him in their hearts.
