My daughter Zoe perfectly captured Wednesday Addams’ signature gloomy style, while my son Chase was the spitting image of Pugsley. I enjoyed becoming Morticia, and my husband made a fantastic Gomez. Our oldest even joined in as Uncle Fester. But the star of our DIY costume creations was definitely Cousin It!

Creating Your Own Cousin It Costume
Cousin It, the hairy relative from the Addams Family, is known for their floor-length hair and mysterious mumbling. Creating a Cousin It costume might sound complicated, but it’s surprisingly easy and budget-friendly, perfect for a last-minute Halloween project. We made ours using readily available materials and a simple technique.

For our DIY Cousin It, we utilized two skeins of Bernat Softee Chunky yarn. This super bulky yarn is ideal because it creates that thick, shaggy Cousin It look quickly. We used a plastic Halloween treat bucket as the base to keep the costume lightweight and easy to wear.
To construct the costume, we simply covered the treat bucket entirely with the chunky yarn, ensuring full coverage to mimic Cousin It’s hairy appearance. To complete the look, we added a hat, attaching it with a string to the bucket. This clever design allows for easy access to the bucket opening – perfect for filling it with Halloween candy!
