Incident at Berkeley Law Dean’s Home: A Conservative Alum’s Perspective

As a proud graduate of the University of California, Berkeley – School of Law, I’ve been following the recent incident at Dean Chemerinsky’s home. Having navigated Berkeley Law as a conservative voice in a very liberal environment, I feel compelled to share my perspective.

My background includes hosting a radio talk show on KSFO 560 AM and KHTK-AM Sports, interning at CNN, and serving as Vice President of The Federalist Society chapter at Berkeley Law, advised by John Yoo. This diverse experience has exposed me to numerous protests, even personal ones during my time at Berkeley Law.

While Dean Chemerinsky and I hold different political viewpoints, I believe he has served effectively as Dean. He has consistently championed free speech, even in cases involving Trump, and advanced the law school’s academic and practical strengths, particularly in business and technology law, areas I actively supported. Berkeley Law’s location near Silicon Valley necessitates this focus to remain a world-class institution.

This recent incident, unfortunately, casts a negative light on the school and the causes involved. In my view, it validates some of my long-held concerns about the campus climate and certain protest methods. Berkeley needs to adapt and improve; it’s not the 1960s anymore.
