The Arizona Family Campout Program is an initiative by Arizona State Parks to make camping accessible and enjoyable for everyone, especially families new to outdoor adventures. These weekend campouts provide a structured and educational experience where families can learn the essential skills needed for successful camping trips. You’ll gain hands-on experience and build confidence to explore Arizona’s beautiful campgrounds on your own. It’s more than just a campout; it’s an opportunity to bond with your az family and ignite a lifelong love for nature.

During an az family campout weekend, expert staff and volunteers will guide you through all the basics of camping. You’ll learn how to set up a tent quickly and efficiently, turning what might seem daunting into a simple family activity. The Arizona Family Campout Program removes this barrier by providing almost everything you need! Forget about investing in expensive tents, sleeping mats, lanterns, or cooking equipment right away. The program supplies these items, along with camp chairs, first aid kits, activity equipment, and even snacks and beverages. This generous provision allows you to focus on enjoying the experience with your az family without the stress of gear preparation.

Spring Campout Schedule and Registration

Ready to embark on your az family camping adventure? Spring registration is currently sold out, highlighting the program’s popularity and value. However, it’s never too early to plan for future opportunities! Keep an eye out for upcoming schedules and registration announcements. Typically, the program offers campouts at various Arizona State Parks, showcasing the diverse landscapes of the state.

Please note: Families are allowed to sign up for one event per season, and a maximum of three campouts in total. This ensures that as many families as possible can benefit from this fantastic program.

Typical Spring Campout Locations:

  • Alamo Lake State Park, Wenden (two-night event)
  • Catalina State Park, Tucson
  • Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area, Show Low
  • Red Rock State Park, Sedona
  • River Island State Park, Parker
  • Dead Horse Ranch State Park, Cottonwood
  • Lyman Lake State Park, St. Johns (two-night event)

Registration Fee:

  • $90 for a family of up to four for one-night events
  • $110 for a family of up to four for two-night events
  • $5 per additional family member
  • Note: Children 6 years and older are welcome. Pets are not allowed.

What to Bring for Your AZ Family Campout

While the program provides much of the camping equipment, your az family will need to bring some personal essentials to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Families are responsible for providing:

  • Food for the weekend (lunches, dinners, breakfasts)
  • Pots, pans, cutlery, plates, and bowls for cooking and eating
  • Refillable water bottles to stay hydrated
  • Sleeping bags, bedding, and pillows for comfortable sleep
  • Sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing for outdoor activities
  • Toiletries and personal medications
  • Towels for swimming and bathing (if applicable)

Arizona State Parks will provide:

  • Tents and sleeping mats for comfortable shelter
  • Lanterns for campsite lighting
  • Backpacks for carrying personal items
  • Camp stoves for cooking meals
  • Camp chairs for relaxation
  • First aid kits for safety
  • All activity equipment for planned programs
  • Snacks and beverages (water, coffee, tea, hot chocolate)
