In 2019, Jackson received a diagnosis that would change his family’s life: MECP2 Duplication Syndrome. It took time for Jackson’s family to fully absorb and process this news. Jackson had initially appeared to be a healthy and happy baby. However, around two months old, he started experiencing significant gastrointestinal problems, including vomiting and fainting spells. This led to a series of visits to various specialists. As Jackson grew, it became apparent that his challenges extended beyond feeding difficulties. He was not meeting developmental milestones as expected, prompting a neurological examination. Subsequently, genetic screening was recommended to rule out potential underlying conditions. This genetic testing ultimately revealed the MECP2 Duplication Syndrome diagnosis.
Despite the initial shock, Jackson’s family has proactively built a strong support network. This experience has ignited a passion within Jackson’s family to advocate for children like Jackson and their families.
