Important Changes to Anonymous Reporting and ICF/IID Facility Reports

Policy Change Regarding Anonymous Reports of Child Abuse and Neglect

As of September 1, 2023, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services no longer accepts anonymous reports concerning child abuse and neglect. To comply with new reporting requirements, both professional and non-professional reporters must provide their first and last name and a home or business phone number. Providing only a business, agency, or organizational name is insufficient. For a report to be accepted by DFPS, a full name and phone number are mandatory.

If you wish to remain anonymous when reporting child abuse and neglect, you may contact local and state law enforcement agencies. It is important to remember that reporter’s names are kept confidential by law when reporting to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

Transition of Reports Involving Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID)

Effective March 1, 2024, reporting abuse, neglect, and exploitation allegations within Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with an Intellectual Disability or Related Condition (ICF/IID), including State Supported Living Centers (SSLCs), has transitioned from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to Health and Human Services (HHS) Complaint and Incident Intake (CII). The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services will no longer investigate these types of reports.

To report concerns related to ICF/IID facilities, including SSLCs, please contact HHS Complaint and Incident Intake (CII) through the following methods:

By understanding these reporting procedures and policy changes, you can effectively report suspected abuse and neglect to the appropriate Texas authorities, ensuring the safety and protection of vulnerable individuals.
