Beware of Benefit Fraud
It is crucial to be aware of fraudulent schemes targeting recipients of jobs and family services benefits. The Ohio Benefits Project has received reports of individuals receiving deceptive calls claiming their benefits are ending and requesting personal information such as Social Security numbers.
These calls are NOT legitimate and are not generated by the State of Ohio or any official agencies. Protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud by:
- Never providing personal information such as your Social Security number, EBT card number, or bank account details over the phone to unsolicited callers.
- Being cautious of calls threatening to terminate your benefits unless you provide immediate information.
- Remembering that official communications from the Ohio Benefits Project will come from (844)640-6446 (phone calls) or (614)350-2711 (text messages).
If you receive a suspicious call, please report it immediately to the State of Ohio Attorney General’s office at 1-800-282-0515 or online. Ohio is among several states targeted by criminals attempting to steal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Stay informed and protect your benefits.
