October is here, and for families who adore Halloween, like ours at hudsonfamily.net, it’s time to get creative with costumes! This year, we embraced the delightfully spooky Addams Family, and it was a hit. My daughter perfectly embodied Wednesday, my middle son was a spitting image of Pugsley, and I channeled my inner Morticia. My eldest even made a fantastic Uncle Fester, while my husband, of course, stepped into the role of Gomez.

But the star of our Addams Family ensemble, especially for those wanting a unique and fun DIY project, was our Addams Family Cousin Itt costume! This character, known for his floor-length hair and mysterious mumbling, is surprisingly easy to recreate.

Creating our Addams Family Cousin Itt was simpler than you might think. We took a plastic Halloween treat bucket – the kind kids use for trick-or-treating – and covered it entirely with two skeins of Bernat Softee Chunky yarn. The chunky yarn is key to getting that signature Cousin Itt volume and texture.

To complete the look, we added a hat, attaching it with a simple string. This way, you can lift the hat to access the treat bucket underneath – perfect if your Cousin Itt needs to carry candy!
