Starting Your Family Sharing Group

As the family organizer (usually an adult), you can initiate Family Sharing from your personal Apple device – be it an iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Remember, if purchase sharing is enabled, the organizer’s payment method will be used for all family purchases, so ensure you have a valid payment method on file.

Setting Up Family Sharing on Your iPhone or iPad

1. Begin by opening the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and tap on your name at the top.

Inviting Members to Your Apple Family Sharing

Whether you chose to skip inviting members during the initial setup or you’re adding a new family member later, sending invitations is straightforward. You can invite individuals via Messages, email, or even in person. For users with multiple Apple IDs, Family Sharing allows you to invite each of your accounts to consolidate purchases within the family group.

Inviting Family Members on iPhone or iPad (iOS 16 or Later)

1. Navigate to the Settings app and tap on Family.

2. Tap the Add Member button to start inviting.

Checking Invitation Status

After sending an invitation, you can easily check its status to ensure your family members have received and accepted it.

Checking Invitation Status on iPhone or iPad

1. Open Settings and tap on Family.
2. Tap on the person’s name to view the invitation status.
3. If needed, tap Resend Invitation to send it again.

Checking Invitation Status on Mac (macOS Ventura or Later)

Joining an Apple Family Sharing Group
