Know Before You Go to Mexico for a Family Vacation

Consider the Season: Mexico is a year-round destination, but the best weather for beach vacations is typically from November to April. July and August can be extremely hot and humid. Hurricane season is often in September and October. In Cancun and Riviera Maya, sargassum (seaweed) season can occur from April to October, which might affect beach conditions.

Amenities Can Be Key: While a beachfront location is desirable, resort amenities are crucial, especially if beach conditions are less than ideal (e.g., non-swimmable beaches in Los Cabos or seaweed in Cancun). Choosing an all-inclusive resort with extensive pool areas and activities, particularly in locations like Playa del Carmen, ensures a fun-filled vacation regardless of beach conditions.

Be Mindful of Timeshares: Many Mexican resorts have timeshare sales desks. Salespeople can be persistent. It’s perfectly acceptable to politely but firmly decline if you’re not interested in a timeshare presentation.
