Our mission is clear: to cultivate a nurturing and inclusive environment where future leaders in family medicine are trained and empowered. To achieve this, our aims include:

  1. Creating and sustaining a supportive and inclusive work and learning environment for all members of our community – residents, faculty, and staff.
  2. Actively partnering with and contributing positively to our local Charlottesville community.
  3. Recruiting and training a diverse resident cohort that mirrors the demographics of our community and the patient populations we serve.
  4. Providing comprehensive training across the full spectrum of Family Medicine, with focused areas in refugee health, integrated behavioral health, evidence-based clinical practice, and preparation for academic careers.
  5. Equipping residents to excel within interprofessional care teams and to lead these teams in enhancing the quality of patient care.
  6. Preparing residents to be effective advocates for their patients and the wider communities they serve.
