Oops! Android Emergency SOS Feature Accidentally Shares Nude Photo

An Android user experienced a rather embarrassing situation when his phone’s Emergency SOS feature inadvertently sent a nude photo to his contacts.

The Reddit user, AssistancePretend668, shared his comical misfortune on the Google Pixel subreddit, detailing how a sleepy fumble turned into a privacy mishap.

According to the user, the day began with him waking up to his alarm. Having gone to bed naked, he was still in the nude when the alarm started ringing. In a half-asleep state, he began swatting at his Google Pixel to turn off the alarm.

Unbeknownst to him, in his drowsy attempts to silence the ringing, he accidentally pressed the power button five times. This action triggered the Emergency SOS feature on his Pixel phone.

Instead of just silencing the alarm, he activated a process that would alert his emergency contacts and, to his horror, share more than just his location. The initial alarm sound quickly escalated into a loud siren, fully waking him up.

“I grab my phone and look at the screen (still half asleep),” he wrote. “I see the notifications for ‘calling 911’ and stuff about sending location and whatever else to emergency contacts. I’m thinking ‘S–T emergency services are going to come, my friends will get scared, and I’m just laying here naked in bed!!’”

He managed to cancel the 911 call, initially believing the situation was under control. However, he soon began receiving concerned calls and messages from his friends and family. Their concern wasn’t about his safety, but about something far more revealing.

His Google Pixel, with its Emergency SOS feature enabled, had automatically snapped a photo and sent it to his emergency contacts. Unfortunately, due to his state of undress and phone-in-hand position, the photo captured more than just his location – it captured everything.

“Friends are concerned … but not so much about my safety but rather that MY PIXEL SENT EVERYBODY PHOTO/VIDEO OF ME NAKED,” he explained.

He humorously acknowledged the feature’s unintended use, stating, “So yes, Pixel’s SOS features are a great way to send d–k pics to people, folks.”

While the Emergency SOS feature does offer a 3-second countdown by touching and holding a red circle, he hadn’t configured this option.

Reflecting on the incident, he hoped his embarrassing mishap provided some amusement to others. He joked it gave everyone “a jolly start to their day or a fun 1 am booty call, depending on time zone.”

For those concerned about accidentally sharing more than intended, Android’s Emergency SOS features can be customized or disabled entirely. It might be wise to review your settings to avoid a similar, revealing surprise.
