John P. Allen, O.D.
Dr. John P. Allen, a dedicated optometrist at Family Vision Associates in Corpus Christi.
Dr. John P. Allen has been an integral part of Family Vision Associates since 2008, bringing his expertise and commitment to patient care to our Corpus Christi practice. He laid the foundation for his optometry career with a Bachelor’s degree from the esteemed Texas A&M University before achieving his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Allen’s early career included three years of service in the Air Force, where he was a valued member of the Armed Forces Optometric Society, honing his skills and dedication to service.
A local graduate of Carroll High School, Dr. Allen is delighted to be back in Corpus Christi, serving the community he knows and loves. Outside of providing exceptional eye exams and vision care, he enjoys fishing, embracing the outdoor lifestyle of the Coastal Bend. Dr. Allen is a family man, married with three children and a beloved dog named Roscoe, further rooting him in the family-centric values of our practice at Family Vision Associates.
Norman L. Smith, O.D. (Retired)
Dr. Norman L. Smith’s legacy is deeply embedded in Family Vision Associates. He established the practice in Corpus Christi in 1979, building it from the ground up into the respected eye care center it is today. Originally from Edinburg, Texas, Dr. Smith pursued his higher education at North Texas State University and the University of Houston, culminating in his graduation from the University of Houston College of Optometry.

Dr. Smith’s commitment to the field of optometry is evident through his long-standing membership in both the Texas and American Optometric Associations. Although now retired, his foundational work and dedication to patient-first eye care principles continue to guide Family Vision Associates. His vision for a community-focused, high-quality eye care practice remains the cornerstone of our mission.
Michael E. Lawson, O.D.

Dr. Michael E. Lawson has been dedicated to serving the vision needs of the Corpus Christi community since 1979, sharing the same start year as Dr. Smith, marking decades of combined experience at Family Vision Associates. A graduate of the prestigious Ohio State University College of Optometry, Dr. Lawson brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our practice. His commitment to the wider Coastal Bend area is further demonstrated by his previous practice in Sinton, Texas, from which he is now retired, allowing him to focus solely on his patients at Family Vision Associates in Corpus Christi. His long tenure and dedication underscore the stability and experience patients can expect at Family Vision Associates.
Linda A. Cadena, O.D.
Dr. Linda A. Cadena, optometrist at Family Vision Associates with extensive experience and local roots in Corpus Christi.
Dr. Linda A. Cadena joined Family Vision Associates in September 2012, enriching our practice with her broad experience and local connections. Earning her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2002, Dr. Cadena has been committed to providing excellent eye care for over two decades. Her career path included travels and experiences across the United States with her husband in the Navy, taking them from Corpus Christi to California, Florida, Washington, Hawaii, and Virginia, before bringing them back home to Corpus Christi.
Like Dr. Allen, Dr. Cadena is a local graduate of W.B. Ray High School, reinforcing her deep ties to the Corpus Christi community. She is happily married with two children, Jacob and Madelyn, and two cats, embracing family life alongside her professional dedication at Family Vision Associates. Dr. Cadena’s return to her hometown and Family Vision Associates highlights her commitment to serving the eye care needs of her community.
Behrens, Susan Marie O.D.
March 3, 1987 – April 5, 2017
Dr. Susan Marie Behrens, remembered optometrist at Family Vision Associates, dedicated to patient care and community.
While we deeply mourn the loss of our colleague and friend, Dr. Susan Marie Behrens, we honor her memory and the significant impact she had on Family Vision Associates. Dr. Behrens, who passed away suddenly at the young age of 30, remains a cherished member of our Family Vision Associates family.
Dr. Behrens received her Doctorate in Optometry in 2013 as part of the inaugural class of the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry (UIWRSO) in San Antonio, TX. She practiced with dedication and compassion at Family Vision Associates for 3 years, as well as with Vision Boutique, before pursuing a new opportunity in Portland, Oregon in January 2017. Her adventurous spirit and love for nature, tragically, led to her untimely passing while hiking in the Columbia River Gorge.
Dr. Behrens’ passion for optometry and her caring nature left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike at Family Vision Associates. We remember her contributions and continue to be inspired by her commitment to patient care and her vibrant approach to life.
