Henderson Family YMCA Code of Conduct: Ensuring a Safe and Welcoming Environment

At the Henderson Family Ymca, we are dedicated to fostering a secure, comfortable, and inclusive environment for every member and guest. Our commitment is rooted in the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith. This code of conduct is designed to ensure that these values are upheld at all times within our facilities, on our property, and during participation in our programs. We believe that a shared understanding of expected behavior is essential for creating a positive experience for everyone at the Henderson Family YMCA.

We expect all individuals utilizing the Henderson Family YMCA to demonstrate maturity, act responsibly, and uphold the rights and dignity of others. To help clarify these expectations, we have outlined specific actions considered inappropriate and therefore prohibited within our facilities and programs. Please note that this list is not exhaustive but serves to illustrate the types of behaviors that are not acceptable at the Henderson Family YMCA.

Prohibited Actions at the Henderson Family YMCA:

  • Membership Misuse: Lending your Henderson Family YMCA membership to another individual is strictly prohibited. Allowing unauthorized use of your membership card can result in membership cancellation.
  • Substance Use: The use or possession of alcohol or illegal drugs is not permitted on Henderson Family YMCA property, in YMCA vehicles or facilities, or at YMCA-sponsored programs. This policy is in place to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all.
  • Smoking and Tobacco Products: All Henderson Family YMCA buildings and grounds are smoke-free and tobacco-product-free environments. This includes the use of vaping devices and e-cigarettes anywhere on YMCA property.
  • Property Respect: Theft or any behavior leading to the destruction or loss of YMCA property or the property of others is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
  • Physical Safety: Physical contact with another person in an angry, aggressive, or threatening manner is strictly prohibited. The safety and well-being of our members is paramount.
  • Verbal Conduct: Verbally abusive behavior, including the use of profanity, angry language, swearing, or name-calling, is not permitted. Respectful communication is expected at all times.
  • Sexual Harassment and Misconduct: Sexually explicit conversations or behavior, and any sexual contact with another person are strictly forbidden. The Henderson Family YMCA is committed to providing a safe space free from sexual harassment.
  • Weapons Prohibition: Carrying or concealing any weapon, device, or object that could be used as a weapon is prohibited on YMCA premises. This is to ensure the safety and security of everyone.
  • Discriminatory Language: Derogatory or unwelcome comments based on an individual’s race, color, sex/gender, gender identity, religion, age, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristic are strictly prohibited. The Henderson Family YMCA embraces diversity and inclusion.
  • Harassment and Intimidation: Harassment or intimidation through words, gestures, body language, or any form of menacing behavior is unacceptable. We strive to maintain a respectful and welcoming atmosphere for all.
  • Locker Room Etiquette: In locker rooms, members are asked to be as modest and discreet as possible to respect the privacy and comfort of others.
  • Appropriate Attire: Inappropriate or revealing attire is not permitted within the Henderson Family YMCA facilities. Please refer to our specific Building Attire guidelines for detailed information.
  • Commercial Activities: Using Henderson Family YMCA facilities to conduct business with a “client” or to facilitate a “third-party program,” without being an employee of the YMCA, is not allowed, regardless of membership status.
  • Loitering: Loitering within Henderson Family YMCA facilities or on the grounds after being asked to leave YMCA property is prohibited.
  • Social Media Misuse: Using social networking websites in a way that contradicts the YMCA’s mission, is detrimental to the community, or violates the law is prohibited. We expect responsible online conduct from our members that reflects positively on the Henderson Family YMCA community.
  • Privacy Protection: To protect the privacy of all members and guests, the use of any recording device is prohibited unless prior permission has been granted by YMCA management.
  • Cell Phone Usage: Please refer to our Workout Etiquette and Video Tapes/Photography guidelines for specific policies regarding cell phone usage in different areas of the Henderson Family YMCA.
  • Zero Tolerance for Abuse: Any form of abuse will not be tolerated at the Henderson Family YMCA and may result in immediate dismissal from the YMCA and its programs.

Membership and the use of the Henderson Family YMCA facilities are privileges extended to individuals who agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Henderson Family YMCA leadership retains the right to deny access to or terminate the membership of any person who violates this Code of Conduct. This includes individuals who have been accused or convicted of crimes involving physical, verbal, or sexual abuse, are registered sex offenders, have a history of drug-related offenses, are under the influence of illegal substances, or have engaged in any conduct that, in the YMCA’s judgment, is contrary to our commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment.

Anyone witnessing a violation of this Code of Conduct at the Henderson Family YMCA is encouraged to immediately report the behavior to a staff member on duty. Our YMCA staff members are readily available and eager to assist in maintaining a positive environment for everyone.

Violations of this Code of Conduct may lead to suspension or termination of Henderson Family YMCA membership. While an incident is under investigation, the membership of the individual(s) accused of a violation may be temporarily suspended pending a final decision.

For the safety and security of all individuals at the Henderson Family YMCA, please be aware that our YMCA utilizes video technology. Cameras are installed in open and public areas only, and not in private spaces such as locker rooms or restrooms.

The Henderson Family YMCA appreciates every member’s cooperation in upholding this Code of Conduct and contributing to making our YMCA a great place for everyone in the Henderson community.
