David Arthur VonFeldt, a resident with strong ties to the Lumberton, Texas area, passed away on September 16, 2024, and entered into eternal rest. Born on August 19, 1954, in Denver, Colorado, David’s life journey led him to Texas, where he spent his formative years and graduated from Chester High School in 1972. His commitment to service was evident early on as he joined the United States Navy, proudly serving his country aboard the USS Hassayampa during the Vietnam War era as part of the Blue Navy.
While stationed in San Diego, California, in 1977, David’s life took a beautiful turn when he met and married Kathy. Their enduring love story spanned 47 years, a testament to their commitment and companionship. David was a devoted husband and family man throughout his life.
Professionally, David was a skilled and dedicated mechanic, both in the military and in civilian life. He possessed a remarkable talent for fixing and building things, earning him a reputation as someone who could tackle any mechanical challenge. From automobiles to heavy machinery and even submarines during his naval service, David approached every task with pride and diligence. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, understanding that being a father meant more than just financial support; it was about active presence and guidance. David exemplified this by coaching his children’s baseball and softball teams, enthusiastically supporting them from the sidelines at football games and tennis matches, and, most importantly, guiding them in their faith and pointing them towards Jesus.
David’s servant heart extended beyond his family and profession. He was deeply involved in his church community, always ready to lend a hand wherever needed. One of his cherished roles was serving as a chaperone at Preteen Camp each year, where he affectionately became known as “PawPaw” to everyone. He embraced this role wholeheartedly, finding joy in praying for and encouraging young believers as they explored their faith.
David is lovingly remembered by his wife, Kathy VonFeldt of Kountze, TX; his son Shaun and wife Amy VonFeldt of Kountze, TX; and his daughter Carrie and husband Ray Andrus of Alvin, TX. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Kaygan VonFeldt, Bailey Stinson and husband Cody Stinson, Jonathan Andrus, Chloe Andrus, and Brady VonFeldt. David was overjoyed to have also become a great-grandfather to Codi, who brought him immense joy.
In Heaven, David is now reunited with his grandson and namesake, Alex David. He is also survived by his sisters, Judy Buchanan and Nancy Cope, and their families, who mourn his passing but celebrate his life.
A service to celebrate David’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Calvary North, located at 395 Fletcher Rd, Lumberton, TX. Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a ceremony with full military honors.
