Dive into Excellence: Rancho Family YMCA Swim Team Programs

The North San Diego YMCA Swim Team, also known as the Rancho Family Ymca Swim Team, welcomes swimmers of all abilities, from beginners to advanced competitors. As a USA Swimming team, we provide year-round training and participate in local competitions against other USA and YMCA teams throughout San Diego. Our program is designed to foster endurance, boost self-confidence, and instill discipline in young athletes through a comprehensive training regimen that includes both dry-land and in-water exercises, all guided by our team of experienced and dedicated coaches.

We offer continuous Swim Team enrollment throughout the year, divided into two seasons:

  • Winter Season: September 1st to March 31st
  • Summer Season: April 1st to August 30th

Schedules for each season are released in advance, with the Winter schedule available on August 1st and the Summer schedule on March 1st.

To join the Rancho Family YMCA Swim Team, all prospective members must undergo a swim evaluation with our Head Swim Coach, Joni Paulsen. You can easily schedule your evaluation by contacting her via email at [email protected].

Our swim team program is structured into different levels to cater to varying skill sets and commitment levels:

Bronze Level: Building Foundational Skills

Our Bronze level is perfect for swimmers who are developing their fundamental skills. These one-hour sessions are available Monday through Friday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Swimmers can choose to attend 2 or 3 sessions per week.

Recommended Skills:

  • Proficiency in all four competitive strokes.
  • Ability to swim 50 yards freestyle, 25 yards backstroke, 25 yards breaststroke, and 25 yards butterfly.

Required Equipment:

  • Kickboard
  • Pull Buoy

Silver Level: Enhancing Technique and Endurance

The Silver level is designed for swimmers looking to refine their technique and build endurance. These one-hour sessions run Monday through Friday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with options to attend 2, 3, or 4 times per week.

Recommended Skills:

  • Mastery of all four competitive strokes.
  • Ability to complete 3 repetitions of 100 yards freestyle, each within 2 minutes.

Required Equipment:

  • Kickboard
  • Fins
  • Pull buoy

Gold Level: Developing Competitive Edge

Our Gold level is for swimmers aiming for a competitive edge. These 1.5-hour sessions are held on Mondays and Fridays from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, incorporating both dry-land training (7:00 PM – 7:30 PM) and pool practice (7:30 PM – 8:30 PM).

Recommended Skills:

  • Expertise in all four competitive strokes.
  • Ability to complete 10 repetitions of 100 yards freestyle, each within 1 minute and 45 seconds.

Required Equipment:

  • Kickboard
  • Fins
  • Pull buoy
  • Dry-land Apparel

Platinum Level: Elite Performance Training

The Platinum level is our highest level, focused on elite performance. These 2-hour sessions take place on Mondays and Fridays from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, including dry-land training (6:30 PM – 7:00 PM) and extensive pool work (7:00 PM – 8:30 PM).

Recommended Skills:

  • Exceptional proficiency in all four competitive strokes.
  • Ability to complete 10 repetitions of 100 yards freestyle, each within 1 minute and 25 seconds.

  • Kickboard
  • Fins
  • Pull buoy
  • Dry-land Apparel
