During our Ohio travels, we made it a point to explore new restaurants, and Berardi’s Family Kitchen in Sandusky quickly became a standout. So many friends have mentioned that they rely on my restaurant reviews for inspiration, and I’m thrilled to share this gem with you. Berardi’s Family Kitchen is definitely a place we’ll be returning to.
Our Sandusky visit was primarily to see Karen Graham, now serving at Lakeside United Methodist Church. While Sandusky wasn’t new to us – we often passed through on Cedar Point trips or drives to Lakeside – dining there was uncharted territory. Turning to Trip Advisor for local recommendations, Berardi’s Family Kitchen emerged as Sandusky’s top-rated restaurant. Naturally, we had to experience it for ourselves.
Settling into our table at Berardi’s Family Kitchen, I began reading the menu’s introductory bio. Mentioning their renowned french fries, I remarked to Tom about it. His immediate response was, “Berardi’s Fries! The Cedar Point Fries!” It turns out, Berardi’s has a long-standing reputation for their fries, even tied to the famous Cedar Point Amusement Park. For years, even when thrill rides were off his list, Tom was always up for a Cedar Point trip specifically for those fries. This legacy definitely piqued our interest.
Beyond the legendary fries at Berardi’s Family Kitchen, we were eager to explore the rest of the menu. The bustling parking lot and fully occupied tables were strong indicators of the food’s quality. And the dessert display near the register was truly tempting, solidifying my decision to save room for a sweet treat. I opted for the pulled brisket sandwich, while Tom and Karen chose the Lake Erie Perch. Of course, we shared an order of the famous Berardi’s fries. Each dish was delicious and portioned just right, leaving us perfectly positioned for dessert.

For dessert, we each chose a slice of pie. Tom went with pecan, Karen selected cherry, and I, intrigued by its description, ordered the French Silk. Having been disappointed by imposters before, I questioned the waitress to ensure it was the real deal. And it was – the French Silk pie was exceptional. Truly light, wonderfully flavored, and utterly delicious. It was so good, in fact, that I would happily make the drive back to Berardi’s Family Kitchen in Sandusky solely for another slice.
Famous fries and fabulous pies – what more could you ask for? Perhaps a piece of their peanut butter chocolate cake, maybe with ice cream? But honestly, it’s hard to imagine anything topping that French Silk pie. If you’re heading to or through Sandusky, Berardi’s Family Kitchen is an outstanding dining choice.
