When searching for the Best Family Vehicle, budget and practicality are often top priorities. After extensive research, we opted for the Nissan Pathfinder over a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Initially drawn to the Grand Cherokee, the Pathfinder ultimately won us over with its family-friendly features and significant cost savings. The sliding second-row seats providing easy access to a truly usable third row, coupled with the generous cargo space, were key selling points. Securing a Platinum trim Pathfinder for under $39,000, considerably less than a comparable Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with upgraded features, solidified our decision.
However, it’s important to consider some drawbacks. The Pathfinder’s all-wheel-drive system, which primarily operates in front-wheel-drive and reverts to auto mode, was a noticeable compromise. Driving in snowy conditions in New Jersey highlighted this limitation, requiring manual locking of gears for уверенность traction, especially on hills and during turns. Furthermore, while marketed as a Platinum trim, some tech features felt dated, comparable to our 2010 Maxima. Certain expected “platinum” amenities like LED or xenon headlights and side mirror turn signals, surprisingly found in the smaller Nissan Rogue, were absent. The Around View Monitor, while present, felt somewhat basic in its display.
Despite these points, the Nissan Pathfinder shines in several key areas for families. The price point is undeniably attractive, and the fuel economy is commendable for its class. The tri-zone entertainment and climate control are invaluable for family road trips, keeping everyone comfortable and entertained – a welcome relief from constant children’s programming! The Pathfinder’s cargo capacity also proved its worth when transporting furniture, easily accommodating items that would not have fit in a Grand Cherokee without utilizing its impractical rear glass window.
Concerns about potential transmission issues exist, but awareness and preventative measures can mitigate these risks. Ultimately, the Nissan Pathfinder delivers exceptional value for money, making it a strong contender for the best family vehicle, and we are excited for our first family road trip next summer with our toddler and infant.
