I’ve always been a fan of blueberry picking, especially after my east Texas adventures inspired my Blueberry Hill Surprise recipe. But my recent trip to Blase Family Farm in Rockwall, TX, just a short drive east of Dallas, was a truly special experience. From the moment you arrive, the charm of Blase Family Farm is undeniable. The friendly parking attendants, the quaint entrance, and the welcoming smiles immediately set a positive tone for your visit. You have your choice of bag, small bucket, or large bucket for collecting your berries. Naturally, as an enthusiastic berry picker, I opted for the large bucket and eagerly headed into the fields.

My friend Julie and I, buckets in hand, embarked on a short, delightful walk through the woods to reach the blueberry bushes. This isn’t just a walk to a field; it’s an enchanting stroll. The shaded path is dotted with picturesque photo opportunities and inviting Adirondack chairs, perfect for pausing and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere. It’s easy to imagine a perfect family picnic nestled in this serene woodland setting.

At Blase Family Farm, you’ll discover 1600 blueberry bushes cultivated without pesticides, promising a pure and natural picking experience. The blueberry season typically lasts for 4 to 6 weeks around June. The blueberries are priced at $7 per pound. In just 50 minutes, I managed to pick 1.5 pounds of these juicy gems. Even early in the morning at 9 am, the Texas sun was intense, so we picked at a brisk pace! I was thankful for my new, airy linen dress from Boden, the ideal choice for staying cool in the heat. Sunscreen is definitely a must. What impressed me most was how impeccably maintained the entire area was. I was surprised to find virtually no bugs, though I had applied bug spray as a precaution!

You’ll also find a selection of charming gift items including t-shirts, hats, and cuddly stuffed animals. But whatever you do, promise yourself you won’t leave without trying the fudge! My personal quest for the best fudge in the DFW area led me straight to the chocolate walnut fudge at Blase Family Farm, and I can confidently say, the search is over. It is, without a doubt, the best fudge I’ve ever tasted. Its rich, dark, and creamy texture is simply divine – a true fudge lover’s dream.
