Celebrating the Life of Katherine Ann “Susie” Morris: A Community Family Funeral

Katherine Ann “Susie” Morris, a cherished member of the Richmond, Indiana community, passed away peacefully at Reid Hospital on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on February 9, 1949, to Owen and Nellie (Chamberlain) Ramsey in Richmond, Susie’s life was a testament to love, family, and the simple joys that bind a community together.

Susie found her lifelong love with Rollie, and they married on February 28, 1970, embarking on a journey filled with shared passions and unwavering companionship until his passing in 2004. For many years, Susie contributed her strong work ethic to Hills Roses in Richmond, IN, until 1987. Beyond her work, Susie embraced life’s pleasures with enthusiasm. She found joy and mental stimulation in challenging puzzles and the intricate art of plastic canvas work. Her playful spirit shone through her love for collecting monkeys and engaging in video games. Gatherings with loved ones were always brightened by a deck of cards and Susie’s infectious laughter.

When the Indiana weather permitted, Susie’s adventurous side emerged, and she could be found with a fishing pole in hand. Fishing was more than just a hobby; it was a cherished connection to her late husband, Rollie, and a tradition she continued with family. Determined and spirited, Susie never wanted to leave the water “skunked,” always aiming to catch at least one fish. However, above all else, Katherine, affectionately known as Susie, treasured moments spent with her family and friends. Her face lit up brightest when holding and playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was a playful family tradition for Susie to enthusiastically declare “LOVE YOU MOST,” always wanting to be the first to say it and ensuring everyone knew of her boundless affection.

Susie’s legacy of love and family devotion continues through her surviving family members: her son Rollie (Renee) Morris and daughter Sherry (Danny) Sparks, both of Richmond, IN. Her memory will also be lovingly held by her grandchildren: Danny (Missy) Sparks, James (Michelle) Sparks, Jessica (Joe) Kiser, William (Nora) Sparks, Travis (Chelsea) Morris, Raleigh (Andrea) Morris, Sabrina (Tommy) Cross, and Clayton Sparks, all of Richmond, IN. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, further extending her loving family tree. Her brother, Owen (Barb) Ramsey of Centerville, IN, and sister, Legena Knouff of Winamac, IN, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, will also fondly remember Susie.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Rollie Morris, sister Ronda Wagner, sister-in-law Cathy Ramsey, and great-great-grandchildren Annaliese and Arrianna. Her passing is a significant loss to her family and the wider community who knew and loved her.
