Dr. James Fletcher is a board-certified family medicine physician committed to serving the Dover community. Having grown up locally, Dr. Fletcher’s path to medicine was inspired by a family friend, Dr. Joseph Rubacky, a Bayhealth primary care physician. Witnessing Dr. Rubacky’s daily fulfillment and genuine care for his patients ignited Dr. Fletcher’s aspiration to become a similar kind of doctor, deeply rooted in community service and patient well-being.
Dr. Fletcher’s educational journey began with an undergraduate degree in biology from Brown University, followed by a master’s degree in bio-medicine from Midwestern University. He further honed his expertise through medical school and a residency at Penn State Hershey Medical School, where his exceptional skills and dedication were recognized when he was named Resident Teacher of the Year in family medicine in 2018 and served as chief resident. This rigorous training solidified his commitment to a career focused on comprehensive primary care.
Driven by a desire to provide the highest standard of care, the kind he would want for his own family, Dr. Fletcher approaches each patient interaction with positivity and enthusiasm. He strongly believes in fostering open communication with his patients and emphasizes the importance of regular check-ups and preventive medicine. His proactive approach empowers patients to build and maintain a solid foundation for lasting health. As a dedicated Dover family physician, Dr. Fletcher prioritizes a patient-centered approach to healthcare.
Beyond his practice, Dr. Fletcher extends his commitment to care through medical missions to rural Guatemala. Alongside his wife, a dentist, he provides vital pro-bono medical and dental services. These experiences have reinforced his understanding of the profound impact that primary care physicians can have on families and communities. Dr. Fletcher finds immense satisfaction in caring for entire families within his hometown, often spanning multiple generations. From grandparents to parents, children, and newborns, he offers compassionate listening and personalized guidance to promote physical, social, and emotional wellness, strengthening the family unit from within.
Outside of his professional life as a family physician in Dover, Dr. Fletcher enjoys spending time in nature. He is a passionate shore fisherman and also enjoys the relaxing activities of crabbing and kayaking. This connection to the outdoors reflects his balanced approach to life and well-being, values he brings to his practice as he cares for the Dover community.
