Recreating the Wacky Peter Griffin Car Panini from Family Guy

Before diving into the Peter Griffin Car Panini recipe, I found myself in need of a panini press. Just like when I decided to make Homer Simpson’s Moon Waffles, a trip to the thrift store was in order to find the most affordable option. To my surprise and amusement, I stumbled upon a Hello Kitty panini press for a mere $5!

This Hello Kitty panini press appeared to be brand new, without a single scratch. Perhaps it was bought as a novelty item and never actually used. This raised a slight concern about whether it would even function properly. A test panini was necessary, although it didn’t transport me back in time or into any pirate-themed tangents. The good news was, the Hello Kitty panini press worked perfectly, ready for the main event: the Peter Griffin Car Panini.

Ingredients for the Peter Griffin Car Panini

  • 2 slices of white bread
  • 3 hot dogs
  • 4 peanut butter cups
  • A handful of Doritos
  • 1 Cadbury Creme Egg

Directions to Build Your Car Panini

Lay out two slices of white bread. On one slice, arrange the hot dogs. Next, stack the peanut butter cups on top of the hot dogs, followed by a generous layer of crumbled Doritos. Complete the filling with a cracked Cadbury Creme Egg right on top.

Place the second slice of bread on top to close the sandwich. Put the assembled panini into the preheated panini press. Cook for several minutes, until the bread is nicely browned and the chocolate inside is melted and gooey.

Taste Test: Is the Car Panini Delicious?

While the Car Panini sounds intriguingly bizarre, the reality is… it’s just okay. Everything was edible, but “enjoyable meal” might be an overstatement. The issue seems to be the combination of peanut butter cups and the Cadbury Creme Egg. It’s just too much chocolate battling against the savory hot dogs and the cheesy Doritos. Interestingly, a bite with just hot dog and Doritos (minus the overwhelming chocolate) was surprisingly decent. So, if you’re seeking a truly unconventional and slightly less sweet lunch, maybe hold back on one of the chocolate elements.

This Family Guy episode featuring Peter Griffin’s food truck is full of other outrageous food ideas: jelly donut burgers, hot dog straws for drinks, cereal made of M&M’s and Dr. Pepper, and Swedish fish tacos. Tackling those recipes might be a culinary adventure for another day – if I dare to risk the potential food coma.
