Embarking on the Family Legacy Quest in Evergreen Settlement
Your quest begins in the Evergreen settlement, nestled in the Red Sands at coordinates 4550, -2551. Locate the house on the north side of the settlement. As you approach, the game will prompt you to “Check Mae’s diary.” This diary is not hidden; you’ll find it on a desk near the back door of the house. Simply interact with it by pressing “F” to initiate the first step of uncovering this family legacy.
Deciphering the Puzzle and Opening Mae’s Lockbox
With Mae’s diary examined, your next objective involves a bit of environmental puzzle-solving. Head inside the house, specifically to the kitchen area on the first floor. Here, you’ll find three rotatable blocks. These are key to unlocking Mae’s Lockbox.
The solution to this puzzle is to rotate each block to display specific characters. Rotate the left block until “U” is facing forward, the middle block to show “6”, and finally, the right block to display “D”. Once correctly aligned, Mae’s Lockbox will magically appear beside the blocks. Interact with the lockbox to open it and retrieve the Rosetta Researcher’s Map, a crucial item for the next stage of your quest.

Following the Treasure Map to the Rosetta Safe
The Rosetta Researcher’s Map points you towards the Alternate Reality Research Institute, located at coordinates 6944, -1619 in the northeastern part of Red Sands. This is your next destination in the pursuit of the family legacy.
Upon arriving at the institute, navigate to the southern building and head to its north side. Locate the stairs at the northeast corner and ascend them. Continue your ascent through the building, climbing staircases until you reach the top of a flight. This flight will end directly in front of a distinctive black elevator marked “ROSETTA” in yellow lettering.
Do not enter the elevator. Instead, turn left and climb another set of stairs. This path will lead you to a lab area. In the northeast corner of this lab, you’ll find the “R.S.T Lab.” Inside this lab resides the Rosetta Safe, the treasure marked on your map. Interacting with the safe and collecting its contents will officially complete the “A Family Legacy” quest in Once Human.
Be warned, the Rosetta Safe is guarded by a Level 49 elite enemy. If you find yourself under-leveled or struggling against this foe, a strategic approach is to wait for the enemy to respawn after defeating you. Use this brief window to quickly loot the container before engaging again, or simply make a tactical retreat and return when better equipped.
