Resident Training and Patient Care

At LFPC, we are committed to training the next generation of family physicians. Our residency program integrates patient care with comprehensive medical education. Resident schedules are structured to progressively increase patient volume as they advance in training, ensuring a balanced and supportive learning environment. Interns begin with a patient load of 4 patients per half-day, gradually increasing to 10 patients per half-day by their third year. Each resident is supported by two dedicated medical assistants, fostering a collaborative and efficient care team. Our comprehensive resident orientation program ensures a smooth integration into the clinic environment and fosters camaraderie among residents and staff.

Advanced Technology and Integrated Support Services

LFPC utilizes the Epic electronic health record system, facilitating seamless access to patient medical records and enhancing care coordination across different providers, including specialists at Stanford and UCSF. We provide ongoing Epic training to our residents to optimize their utilization of this powerful platform. Furthermore, our in-house social workers are integral to our patient care model, providing vital support to vulnerable patients through direct collaboration with residents. The on-site presence of attorneys from the California Rural Legal Assistance program provides our patients with invaluable access to free legal consultations, addressing critical social determinants of health such as housing and employment. Our Year 1 interns also gain unique experience leading group prenatal visits, facilitating educational discussions on essential maternity care topics.

Adapting to Modern Healthcare Needs: Telemedicine

In response to the evolving healthcare landscape, LFPC has successfully integrated telemedicine into our care delivery model. Telemedicine visits, utilizing secure platforms, have become a crucial component of our services, ensuring continued access to care while prioritizing patient safety. While we value in-person interactions, telemedicine has proven to be a valuable tool, expanding our reach and offering new avenues for effective patient care through both telephone and video consultations.

In conclusion, Laurel Family Practice Clinic is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care to our community while fostering the development of skilled and compassionate family physicians. We strive to meet the diverse healthcare needs of our patients through a wide range of services, integrated support systems, and adaptation to innovative healthcare delivery methods.
