Illinois Family Murder in Barrington: Prominent Doctor Shot Dead

BARRINGTON, IL – A tragic incident in the northwest suburb of Barrington has resulted in the death of a well-known doctor and the arrest of a 46-year-old man on first-degree murder charges. The Barrington Police Department has reported that William Zientek allegedly shot 42-year-old Olga Duchon, a family member, in what they are calling a domestic-related incident.

The shooting occurred on Sunday afternoon at approximately 5:40 p.m. at Zientek’s Barrington residence. Olga Duchon, a resident of Vernon Hills, sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency responders transported her to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, but tragically, she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Lake County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy, confirming the cause of death as a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Olga Duchon was a respected endocrinologist with Advocate Health Care, known for her independent practice and contributions to the medical community. Adding to the shock and grief, just hours before her untimely death, Dr. Duchon had delivered a presentation at a meeting of the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA) in Wheeling, Illinois. UMANA expressed their profound sorrow on Facebook, stating, “We are all shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic passing of our colleague Dr. Olga Duchon. Just yesterday we had the pleasure of her company at our UMANA meeting. We extend our most sincere condolences to her family and friends.”

Barrington police have reassured the public that this was an isolated domestic incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. William Zientek is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on November 20 for a detention hearing. The investigation into this devastating Illinois family incident is ongoing.
