Phillip A. Stallone, a proud Yonkers native and beloved member of the Stallone Family, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of family devotion and community spirit. Born and raised in the 7th Ward, Phil’s roots in Yonkers ran deep, stemming from his Italian heritage. His grandfather Bonfonte, an immigrant from Italy, established the family in a modest three-family house that became the heart of their close-knit world. Growing up surrounded by aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, Phillip cherished his childhood, always speaking of it with a warm beam and fond memories. This strong sense of family would become a defining characteristic throughout his life as a central figure in the Stallone family.
After graduating from Yonkers High School, Phillip continued his education at Westchester Community College, earning an associate’s degree. While he initially planned to pursue a bachelor’s degree, life took an unexpected turn when he tragically lost his father at the young age of 20. Stepping up to support his mother and brother, Phillip embraced responsibility and entered the workforce full-time. He began his career with a contractor, but after two years of enduring a lengthy 80-mile commute, he sought a more sustainable path. Encouraged by his mother, Phillip explored opportunities in Westchester County Civil Service, a decision that led to a fulfilling 35-year career dedicated to public service and providing stability for the Stallone family.
Love entered Phillip’s life in 1960 when he met MaryAnn, the “love of his life,” at a dance at Fort Hill Country Club. Their connection blossomed, and two years later, they married, embarking on a journey of building their own Stallone family branch. Their union was blessed with three children, who in turn gifted them with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. For Phillip, these family members were the absolute core of his existence, the center of his universe, reflecting the deep family values instilled from his Yonkers upbringing.
As Phillip and MaryAnn celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, they joyfully began exploring the world, embarking on memorable trips to Europe and across the United States with cherished friends. These adventures marked a new chapter of shared experiences and deepened bonds outside of their immediate Stallone family circle.
A pivotal moment arrived in 1988 when they discovered the charm of Hampton Bays, Long Island, during their first weekend getaway. Captivated by the coastal lifestyle, Phillip, a man who had diligently worked three jobs in his early years to provide for his family, dared to dream of a summer home. This dream materialized, becoming a testament to his hard work and a place for creating lasting Stallone family memories.
Following his early retirement in 1995, Phillip and MaryAnn embraced the tranquility of Hampton Bays, spending cherished time by the water, surrounded by the love and laughter of family and friends. His heart was full, overflowing with affection for “all his people,” a testament to the enduring importance of relationships in the life of Phillip A. Stallone and the Stallone family.
In remembrance of Phillip’s generous spirit and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization dedicated to helping children and families in need.
