A Welcoming Space for Everyone at the Clark Family Branch

The Clark Family Branch has been thoughtfully designed to cater to a diverse range of interests and needs. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The first floor features comfortable seating arrangements around two cozy fireplaces, creating ideal spots for reading and relaxation. A substantial browsing collection offers a wide variety of materials, and the space is further enriched by rotating art displays curated in partnership with the Kranzberg Arts Foundation, adding a cultural dimension to the library experience. For large-scale events, The Post Event Space, generously sponsored by Post Holdings Inc., is equipped to host up to 800 people, and will serve as the new venue for SLCL’s popular author series and other community gatherings.

Engaging and Educational Spaces for Children and Teens

Ascending to the second floor, families will discover a vibrant and expansive children’s area. Sponsored by Stephany and Richard Kniep, this brightly colored space is designed to stimulate young minds through play and interactive learning. Key attractions include a large playhouse and a fire engine, alongside educational exhibits such as light tables and a magnetic gear wall. For older children and teenagers, the Clark Family Branch provides a dedicated high-tech creative lab. This innovative space, sponsored by Object Computing Inc., is equipped with cutting-edge technology including a 3-D printer, a professional recording studio, a green screen wall for video projects, and a video game room, offering teens opportunities for creative exploration and skill development.

Resources for Genealogy, Local History, and Small Businesses

A significant highlight of the Clark Family Branch is the Emerson History and Genealogy Center. This specialized center houses SLCL’s extensive collection of genealogy resources and local history documents. Patrons can utilize six interactive Family Search screens for genealogical research and explore the Memory Lab, a unique space where individuals can record and preserve their family histories. Furthermore, a dedicated digitization room is available for converting older media such as photos and VHS tapes into digital formats. For entrepreneurs and small business owners, the Small Business Center at the Clark Family Branch offers a wealth of resources. Dedicated computers and expert staff are on hand to assist patrons, and the center hosts regular programming tailored to business needs. The flexible layout includes various seating options and movable walls to facilitate collaborative work and meetings, along with a soundproof Virtual Meeting Space for private online interactions.

Additional Amenities and Outdoor Features

Beyond these specialized areas, the Clark Family Branch provides a comprehensive suite of amenities designed for convenience and comfort. Eighteen private study rooms offer quiet spaces for focused work, while an outdoor reading deck provides a refreshing open-air environment. A computer lab is available for public use, and community meeting rooms can be reserved for groups and organizations. Throughout the branch, comfortable seating areas encourage relaxation and browsing among the extensive collection of books, music, DVDs, magazines, and other media. The library extends beyond its walls with thoughtfully designed outdoor spaces.
