Steve Alessi: Leading a Ministry That Truly is a Family Business

Miami native Steve Alessi answered a calling to ministry at the young age of 19, a commitment he has faithfully upheld for over 40 years. A graduate of Southeastern University in 1984, Steve began his journey in ministry serving alongside his parents as Associate Pastor at Grace Church of Kendall, establishing a foundation rooted in family and faith.

In 1997, Steve and his wife, Mary, embarked on a new venture, founding Metro Life Church in Doral, Florida. This marked a significant step in their ministry, built on their shared vision and partnership. Years later, in 2013, their journey came full circle when Pastors Steve and Mary acquired Grace Church. On November 10th, they transitioned his childhood church into the Dadeland Campus of Metro Life Church, showcasing a blend of legacy and forward-thinking leadership.

Today, ministry remains a family affair for Steve. He ministers alongside Mary and their four adult children, along with their spouses and grandchildren. Christopher and Richelle Alessi, Chris and Stephanie Muiña, and Lauren and Gabrielle Alessi are all actively involved. This multi-generational involvement underscores the “family business” aspect of their ministry, a theme further highlighted by their weekly Christian lifestyle podcast, aptly named “The Family Business with The Alessis.” Under Steve’s guidance, Metro Life Church has expanded to include two thriving local campuses and a dynamic online presence, extending their reach and impact. His passion extends to men’s ministry through Metro’s Goodfellas Camps, held at his Farmhouse in Southwest Georgia, challenging men to strengthen their faith and lives.

Adding another layer to his impactful life story, Steve survived a severe heart attack in 2007. After paramedics worked tirelessly for 42 minutes, using defibrillators seven times, he miraculously recovered. This life-altering experience inspired his book, “Forty Two – How To Finish Strong When You Thought You Were Finished.” This powerful message of resilience and second chances has become a cornerstone of his ministry, resonating with many who have faced their own “42 moments.”

Beyond his church leadership, Steve is actively engaged in his community. He is a former member of the City of Doral’s Faith-Based Charities Advisory Committee, currently serves on the Miami-Dade County Commissioners’ Interfaith Advisory Board, and is a Chaplain with the Doral Police Department. He also values his fellowship with Pastor Mike Hayes and is a member of the Champion’s Network with Pastor Joel Osteen, reflecting his commitment to collaboration and growth within the wider faith community.

When not ministering or serving his community, Steve enjoys hunting, boating, and traveling with family and friends. These personal pursuits reflect a balanced life dedicated to faith, family, and service, truly embodying the spirit of a family business in ministry.
