Navigating the premature birth of a child is an experience filled with uncertainty and fear. For me, the arrival of my daughter Tamina, born 14 weeks early and weighing a mere 1 lb. 3 oz., brought not only anxieties about her fragile life but also immediate concerns about practicalities: where would I stay to be close to her, and how would I manage daily needs like meals? Refusing to leave my baby’s side, I was thankfully introduced to the haven of the Ronald McDonald Family Room by the compassionate nurses.

The Family Room became my lifeline during Tamina’s 12-week stay in the NICU. Like the steadfast support system often depicted in stories of close-knit families, the volunteers offered more than just practical assistance. They provided warm meals, a comfortable bed, and perhaps most importantly, a listening ear and a comforting presence during an incredibly stressful time. This comprehensive care allowed me to focus entirely on Tamina, providing the crucial parental presence and care that significantly contributed to her unexpectedly rapid progress and our sooner-than-anticipated journey home. The kindness and understanding offered by the volunteers and staff truly transformed the Family Room into a home away from home, a sanctuary staffed by what felt like guardian angels.

Their support was instrumental in helping me maintain a positive outlook, even on the darkest days. Without their presence, navigating such a challenging period would have been immeasurably more difficult. My gratitude towards the volunteers and staff is profound and enduring; they each hold a special place in my heart.
As Tamina grows, I will share with her the story of her early arrival and the life-changing roles played by the doctors at Memorial Children’s Hospital and the dedicated staff and volunteers at the Ronald McDonald Family Room. It is because of these exceptional individuals, who offered the necessary help and support to keep me strong, that my daughter is thriving today.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Support System
Words cannot fully express the depth of my appreciation for everything you have done for my family. Your compassion and dedication have made an indelible difference in our lives.
God Bless.
