Our Family Adventure at Treworgy’s
Meeting the Animals at the Petting Zoo
One of the first highlights upon arriving at Treworgy Family Orchards is the petting zoo. Conveniently located near the farm stand and parking area, it’s an instant hit with children. My kids were thrilled to interact with the friendly goats, eager to feed them (remember to bring quarters for the feed dispensers!). This year, a fluffy bunny also joined the petting zoo crew, adding to the excitement. The petting zoo became a recurring stop throughout our visit – a perfect way to start the day, a fun break between activities, and a sweet farewell before heading home.

Conquering the Corn Maze: Edwin the Elephant’s Escapade
Our main mission for the day was the corn maze. After securing our tickets, we headed straight to the entrance. Treworgy Family Orchards‘ corn maze is a popular attraction, and you can find more details on their website here. This year’s theme, “Edwin the Elephant’s Exciting Escapade,” added an extra layer of fun for the kids.
Inside the maze, the adventure unfolds as you navigate to find six checkpoints, punching your ticket at each one to reveal clues that ultimately lead you to Edwin. We decided to let the kids take the lead, which, while occasionally resulting in playful debates about directions, made the experience even more engaging for them. We might have taken a few extra turns (or perhaps more than a few!), but the laughter and shared problem-solving made it a memorable family activity. And the reward of completing the corn maze? A free ice cream – a delightful bonus that sweetens the already fun experience!

Relaxing Tractor Hayride Through the Orchards
Hayrides are a quintessential fall activity, and Treworgy Family Orchards offers a charming tractor hayride experience. After our corn maze adventure, we strolled down to the pumpkin patch area near the pond, where the tractor picks up passengers. We hopped on for a relaxing ride past the apple orchards, enjoying the scenic views on our way to the ice cream stand. In previous years, with younger children, the hayride was especially helpful for getting around the farm. It’s a fun and convenient way to see more of Treworgy Family Orchards and take a break from walking.

Indulging in Treworgy’s Famous Ice Cream
No visit to Treworgy Family Orchards is complete without ice cream! We redeemed our corn maze tickets for cones and enjoyed a refreshing treat. The ice cream stand at Treworgy Family Orchards is a destination in itself, boasting an impressive selection of 25 soft serve flavors and 16 hard serve options. Whether you’re rewarding yourself after the corn maze or simply craving a delicious ice cream cone on a fall day, Treworgy’s has you covered.
Apple Picking in the Abundant Orchards
With ice cream enjoyed and goats re-visited, we made our way to the apple orchards for some pick-your-own apple fun. Apple picking at Treworgy Family Orchards is a delightful experience. The trees are laden with fruit, with branches low enough for children to easily reach and higher branches for adults to explore. We picked two pecks of apples – McIntosh and Cortland varieties – both incredibly crisp and flavorful. In 2015, the price for pick-your-own apples was $1.30/lb, offering fresh, local produce at a great value.

Exploring the Farm on a Horse-Drawn Tour
For a unique perspective of Treworgy Family Orchards, we opted for the horse-drawn farm tour. The kids were particularly excited about this, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. We learned that Fred and Fran, the magnificent Belgian-Suffolk draft horses pulling the wagon, are twins! The tour offered a relaxing ride around the farm, showcasing different views and sharing interesting facts about Treworgy Family Orchards. Our tour guides were knowledgeable and welcoming, answering all our questions. We were thrilled to hear about the upcoming horse-drawn wagon/sled rides planned for the Christmas season, weather permitting – another reason to visit Treworgy Family Orchards during the winter holidays.

The Great Pumpkin Patch Adventure
Saving the pumpkin patch for last was a perfect choice, especially for a pumpkin enthusiast like myself. The quest for the “perfect pumpkin” is a cherished fall tradition. My son, Buddy, quickly found his ideal traditional orange pumpkin. My daughter, Boo Boo, on the other hand, was on a mission for a ghost pumpkin. She spotted a stemless pumpkin at the end of a row and declared it “the one.” Despite my gentle encouragement to explore further, she was set on her first find. We ended up with two fantastic pumpkins, including a truly massive one that Boo Boo proudly claimed. The wagon came in handy for transporting our pumpkin and apple bounty back to the car – a slightly challenging but fun task that involved teamwork and maybe a minor wagon-related “incident” (oops!).

Farm Stand Delights and Orchard Cafe Treats
Before concluding our day, we explored the Farm Stand and Orchard Cafe. My mom picked out some gourds for fall decorating, and the kids each chose a small gourd for painting. In 2015, gourds were priced at $1.00 for small and $0.60/lb for large, with squash and pumpkins also available at great prices.

A must-try at Treworgy Family Orchards are their homemade Apple Cider Doughnuts. Watching them being made through the window was a treat for the kids. We also couldn’t resist a pumpkin chocolate whoopie pie and fresh apple cider – perfect fall flavors to take home.

Enjoying Live Music with the Orchard Folk Concert Series
As a final touch to our perfect fall day, we paused to enjoy the music of Sassafras Stomp, performing as part of the Orchard Folk Concert Series. Their lively folk music added a magical atmosphere to Treworgy Family Orchards. You can find the concert schedule and performer details here.
