It is with heavy hearts that we, along with Amy and our entire family, extend our deepest prayers and condolences to the family of our esteemed Legislative Counsel, Cody Rhodes. Cody was not just a colleague but a cherished member of our team at hudsonfamily.net, and his loss is profoundly felt by us all.
Many individuals may have had the privilege of meeting Cody or speaking with him over the phone. He was, in essence, the embodiment of a fine young man, deeply devoted to the state of Tennessee, the House of Representatives, and the noble calling of public service. In the often demanding world of politics, Cody stood out as a reminder that many individuals are drawn to this institution by a genuine desire to serve others. He truly valued the opportunity to contribute to his home state and embraced the challenges inherent in assisting his fellow citizens.
Cody’s journey in public service began with his work for Congressman Jimmy Duncan, a respected figure representing the Second Congressional District of Tennessee, and a mentor to many. Upon Congressman Duncan’s retirement, an opportunity arose in our office, and we were incredibly fortunate to welcome Cody to our staff. He immediately immersed himself in understanding the Fourth District, diligently studying its political history and the diverse backgrounds of its counties. Cody quickly became a well-liked member of our team, possessing a remarkable ability to discern which issues warranted immediate attention and strategic action. His polite Southern demeanor was complemented by a natural sense of humor and an equally keen sense of when to be serious, making him an invaluable asset.
The news of Cody’s cancer diagnosis some time ago was met with shock and sorrow by all who knew him. However, in facing this formidable challenge, Cody displayed an extraordinary determination and unwavering resolve that served as an inspiration to everyone around him. Throughout his battle, his primary concern was for his wife, his family, and even our office, often placing their well-being above his own. He remained committed to staying connected and informed about ongoing matters, undeterred by medical appointments and treatments. Cody approached his fight with relentless courage, exhausting every possible avenue with immense strength and bravery.
Given Cody’s passion for sports, particularly alongside his dedication to politics, the words of the legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano resonate deeply. In his famous speech addressing his own cancer diagnosis, Valvano eloquently stated, “Cancer can take away all my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind. It cannot touch my heart. And it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever.”
Cody’s mind, heart, and soul remained steadfast and unwavering until the very end. While the pain of his loss is profound, we find solace and comfort in knowing that he is now free from pain. For this, we are grateful and rejoice in the enduring memory of his spirit.
Cody will be profoundly missed. We take comfort and strength in the cherished memories of this exceptional young Tennessean and proud American, who will forever remain a treasured member of our office and the wider hudsonfamily.net community.
