For three wonderful nights in Breckenridge, we made ourselves at home at the Grand Colorado on Peak 8. This resort is more than just a place to stay; it’s a destination in itself! Our family favorites included the amazing indoor/outdoor pools and hot tubs – complete with cozy robes for that extra touch of relaxation. Epic Discovery Park, conveniently located at the resort (more on that below!), was a huge hit with the kids. Evenings were spent watching breathtaking sunsets paint the mountain backdrop from our balcony, and we all appreciated the incredibly comfortable beds after a day of adventure.

As mentioned, Grand Colorado boasts incredible on-site entertainment with Epic Discovery Park. From our youngest to oldest, every member of our family had an absolute blast!

While we focused on the park’s attractions, there are numerous hiking trails at the mountain top that we are already planning to explore on our next visit. Breckenridge is truly an outdoor paradise for a Colorado family vacation.

Getting into the charming town of Breckenridge from Grand Colorado is super convenient. You can hop on the frequent shuttle service or take a scenic ride on the gondola.

Pro-tip for your Colorado family vacation: Leave your car at the resort! Parking in Breckenridge town can be pricey, and utilizing the free shuttle or gondola saves you money and hassle.

We fell in love with Durango just as much as Breckenridge! Our top recommendation for a Durango family experience is undoubtedly the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Our day on this historic train was truly magical and a highlight of our Colorado family vacation.
The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad winds through stunning, majestic landscapes, creating unforgettable family memories. The scenic train journey lasts about three hours, and we highly recommend getting the informative guidebook to enhance your experience along the route.

Pro-tip for the Durango train: Book an open-air cart (we loved the Rio Grande cart!). Also, the souvenir cups with free refills are absolutely worth it! Make sure to book your train tickets well in advance, especially for a Colorado family vacation during peak season.

For our stay in Durango, we chose the Doubletree Durango, primarily for its convenient location near Albertson’s grocery store (which also has a Starbucks!). While it’s an older hotel, its riverside location is beautiful and very pleasant.
