Recognizing the often-overlooked health needs of domestic violence survivors, The Family Place operates Medical & Dental Clinics at the Safe Campus and Ann Moody Place. These clinics offer vital healthcare services to women and children residing in the shelters and participating in counseling programs, extending services to men in the men’s shelter as well. Staffed by volunteer physicians and dentists from the community, including residents from UT Southwestern, the clinics provide a comprehensive approach to healthcare.

Services offered include health assessments, screenings, immunizations, and essential dental care. The clinics play a crucial role in identifying and addressing undiagnosed health issues, ensuring that clients receive the necessary care. At the Ann Moody Place location, “Barkingham Palace,” The Family Place operates an animal shelter, a unique and vital service that sets them apart as the only domestic violence service provider in the Dallas area offering this support. “Barkingham Palace” features five dog kennels and five cat towers, along with a comforting Cuddle Room, a Dog Run for exercise, an ADA-compliant dog washing tub, and a workstation for the on-site kennel technician. The kennel tech provides expert care for the animals, especially when clients are facing stress and may need extra support in caring for their pets. Through a strong partnership with the SPCA of Texas, animals in the shelter receive prompt veterinary care, including free vaccinations, wellness exams, and spay/neuter services, ensuring their health and safety.

Transitional Housing: Building a Foundation for a New Life

Supervised Child Visitation: Ensuring Safety and Well-being During Visitation

For families navigating separation, divorce, or custody disputes, especially those involving a history of domestic abuse, The Family Place offers Supervised Child Visitation services at Faith and Liberty’s Place Family Center. This child-centered environment provides a safe and neutral setting for supervised visitation and monitored exchanges between non-custodial parents and their children. Trained professionals are present to facilitate these visits and ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

Referrals for Supervised Visitation often come directly from the Dallas Family Courts, particularly in custody cases where there are concerns about past abusive behaviors. The program provides on-site, one-on-one monitoring during parenting time to prevent any abusive behavior and protect both the child and the custodial parent. Monitored exchanges offer a safe and conflict-free way for parents to transfer children for visitation, following court orders or written agreements.

The Family Place‘s Battering Intervention & Prevention Program (BIPP) works directly with individuals who perpetrate abuse. The program teaches participants to identify, challenge, and change the core beliefs and behaviors that lead to violence in intimate partner relationships. Professional staff members lead psychoeducational groups in both English and Spanish, providing a structured and supportive environment for change.

BIPP is fully accredited by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Community Justice Assistance Division, demonstrating its adherence to high standards of practice. Program enrollment begins with an orientation and interview, with appointments available in North/South Dallas and Collin County. Group counseling sessions are held at various locations, including Oak Cliff, North Dallas, South Dallas, Irving, and Collin County, ensuring accessibility for participants.
