Remembering Tyrell Mitchell: A Life Embraced by Family

Tyrell Lin Mitchell, a beloved son, brother, and friend, passed away at the age of 35 on November 8, 2021, at his parents’ home near Melba, Idaho. Surrounded by the love of his family, Tyrell succumbed after a courageous battle with diabetes, a condition he faced since the age of 16, and later kidney failure, requiring dialysis. Born on December 29, 1985, in American Fork, Utah, Tyrell’s journey began with the Tyrell family, Travis and Terri Mitchell, who embraced him into their hearts and home through adoption. Their joy was amplified as they welcomed Tyrell as a cherished son and brother to his excited older sister, Tammi.

The bond of the Tyrell family was spiritually solidified in July 1986 at the Provo LDS Temple. Three years later, the Mitchell household expanded again with the arrival of Tyrell’s younger brother, Tait, completing their close-knit family unit. Growing up, Tyrell was remembered as an energetic and curious boy, whose adventurous spirit sometimes led to moments of parental worry. Stories like the red paint incident, the big wheel down the stairs, and trampoline jumps from the shed became part of the cherished family lore, painting a picture of a vibrant and active childhood.

At the age of six, Tyrell was diagnosed with ADHD, a challenge he navigated throughout his life, presenting him with various obstacles. Despite these trials, Tyrell possessed a creative soul, finding solace and expression in drawing and artwork. He later pursued higher education at ITT Tech in Boise, earning a certificate in Architectural Drafting. He took pride in his professional work with an architectural firm, often pointing out buildings and projects across the city that bore his personal touch. His career was unfortunately cut short due to disability, preventing him from continuing in the field he loved.

Tyrell found immense comfort and joy in the natural world. He was an avid outdoorsman, frequently spending time fishing, exploring, and immersing himself in nature alongside his loyal dog and cat. Known for his generous spirit, Tyrell had a big heart and a willingness to help others, endearing him to many. His kind nature made him well-liked within his community and among those who knew him.

A significant chapter in Tyrell’s life unfolded when he received a DNA kit as a gift. This led him to connect with and build meaningful relationships with his birth parents and their families. He formed a loving bond with his birth father, Palemia Fue, and birth mother, Wendy Collins, and their respective families. Both families welcomed him with open arms, embracing him as if he had always been a part of their lives. This expansion of family brought immense joy and a deeper sense of belonging to Tyrell.

Tyrell is survived by his loving parents, Travis and Terri Mitchell of Melba, Idaho; his siblings: Tammi Crnkovich (Travis) of Melba, Idaho, and Tait (Rachel) of Meridian, Idaho; his nieces, Jade, Taiya, and Evelynn; and nephews, Ethan, Taiven, and Traisen. He is also survived by his birth father, Palemia Fue (Lani) and their siblings: Nicholas, Thayne, Kyara, Zaharia, Karyana, Phil, Mason, Gordon, Desmond, Dionnzy, Dallin, Darius, and Angellani; and his birth mother, Wendy Collins, and her siblings: Megan, Holly, Annamaria, Miranda, and grandmother Phyllis Carlton.
